Why Some Sunscreen Products May Be Bad For Your Skin

Whether the sun is out or I am off on my holidays I know that I will need to apply my sunscreen as the possible side effects of not doing this are just not worth thinking about. However, one thing I do notice is when I am regularly applying sun screen my acne starts to flare up.

What can I do, sunscreen is a necessity but having acne again is doing nothing for how I feel or my confidence. After all what is the point of a nice tan if there is are a load of spots sat on my face?

Finding the best sunscreen for your skin is no easy task, as there are so many brands and products available to buy that it can feel a bit of a minefield. Known ingredients that may cause sun irritation and breakouts are avobenzone, benzophenones, octyl methoxycinnamate, oxybenzone, to name a few.

If you are prone to acne and sensitive skin, being careful on the types of sunscreen lotions you use is a necessity. Some sunscreen lotions on the market can be greasy, oily, can clog the pores, which could make your acne problem worse and irritate sensitive skin.

Skin care specialists recommend the best active sunscreen ingredients that are gentle for your skin whilst still offering the proper protection from both UVA and UVB rays are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.

Remember ever person is unique and therefore there is no guarantee that a sunscreen product with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide would not cause skin problems. Everyone’s skin is different and therefore may react differently to another person. So you do not suffer a reaction to a sunscreen, use proven products that others have had success with and try different creams to see which suits you and your skin the best.

Yes applying sunscreen can feel like such a pain to do, but it really doesn’t have to be. If you are able to incorporate it in to your morning routine like you would brushing your teeth, then it will become second nature to you.

My Skin Care New Years Resolution

Just think rich food, late nights, and too much alcohol. Can you feel your skin breaking out in acne already? Over the Christmas period our bodies are going to be working over time and the side effect of all this fun is our skin is bound to suffer. New year a New Year resolution to get our skin back into tip top condition.

A few tips to get your skin clear of acne and glowing again.

1. Common sense tells us that if we are eating lots of fatty food then our acne is likely to appear or get worse. By eating plenty of fresh foods and vegetables our skin will look at lot healthier.

2. We hear it time after time drink more water most of us groan at this thought. Yet drinking 8 glasses of cold water will help your body get rid of the waste and toxins. By drinking water you will also help to keep your skin moist and therefore at a lower risk of clogging.

3. By avoiding stimulants such as coffee and cigarettes you will be better able to control your acne. These stimulants can stimulate the sebaceous glands into producing more oil, which can mean making your acne even worse.

4. Stress is a big factor in how our skin looks and behaves. By reducing stress and getting enough sleep our skin will look a lot better.

5. For many people alcohol is a way to relax, yet too much alcohol can aggravate your acne. Alcohol can shrink your skins pores which in turn means they are prone to clogging. Also alcohol can inhibit sleep which will cause more stress and fatigue all leading to your acne getting worse.

6. If possible change your wash cloths and towels after every use, especially if your acne is bad. As once a towel has been used then bacteria will grow meaning you reapply the bacteria back onto your skin.

7. Don’t be afraid to try different products out. Investing in a good skin care system such as Acnezine, Clearpores or Healthypores will help to clear up your acne along with preventing future outbreaks. If you have conditions such as Rosacea then there are also products which are able to treat it.

8. Make sure you moisturise your skin properly. If you use a skin care system like the ones named above you will already have your moisturising routine sorted. Just be aware that a moisturiser that is good for you skin in the summer may not prove to work as well in the winter.

Taking the time to look after your skin. Whether you start this in the New Year or any other time of year is something that will reap rewards. Clear and healthy looking skin free from acne and other blemishes will make you feel on top of the world.

As the temperature starts to drop and the air dry out in our homes due to central heating. Then our skin needs a bit more tender loving care. If we do not take the time to look after our skin over the next few months then acne and skin blemishes will appear.

You could of course look after your skin as normal and deal with any acne as it comes along. Is this really a wise choice, as once acne appears then it does a lot more than affect your appearance. Acne of any kind can knock your confidence and it is hard enough to be positive when it is freezing cold outside add acne on top of it and you could end up feeling really low.

So looking after your skin and preventing acne now, could be one of the wisest decisions you make this year.

The Effect Of Cold Weather On Your Skin

October 8, 2008 by Ros1e

Wintertime is not a good time for your skin. The cold weather, the increased wind and central heating going on in your house causing a dry atmosphere is all things your skin could do without. All these factors decrease the moisture from your skin and can cause the inevitable dry, flaky peeling skin add on top of this acne and you are in for a few months of increased discomfort.

Keeping your skin hydrated during these colder periods is key. So how do you do this?

1. Take a look at your cleanser. Just because it has worked for you during the summer months does not necessarily mean that it will be as effective during the colder periods. If you find that your skin is feeling tighter and dryer after you have cleansed you may need to look at switching to a milder cleanser.

2. Whether you have normal skin or skin that is prone to acne moisturizing is still a vital part of your skin care routine. If you are looking to avoid dry flaky skin then moisturizing is a must. Now you are moisturizing from the outside, don’t forget the inside. Just because it is not as warm outside does not mean you should consume less water. Makes sure you keep your skin hydrated from the inside too.

3. If you are finding that your skin is particularly dry during the winter periods and you are using an acne treatment, try using it every other day to reduce the dryness. If your acne medication is prescribed by a doctor make sure you check first though.

Tips To Help Sufferers Of The Condition Rosacea

Whether you are a sufferer of Mild Rosacea, Moderate Rosacea or Severe Rosacea these daily skin care tips are something that if you practice daily will help your condition

1. Do not wash with hot water, wash with water that is lukewarm.

2. Use gentle non-abrasive cleansers and apply them with your fingers not a cloth.

3. Using a thick-pile cotton towel, do not rub but blot dry.

4. Before applying any products wait at least one minute and make sure your skin is completely dry.

5. If you like to wear makeup, choose only oil-free and/or non-comedogenic products. Avoid foundations and concealers as these act like a mask and trap bacteria and oil in your pores.

6. If Rosacea does flare up, treat it sooner rather than later. Leaving it can cause long-term damage.

7. The sun is often a major reason for flare up so apply at least an SPF 8 sunscreen everyday to prevent UV induced symptoms.

8. Take a look at your diet. Alcohol, hot beverages and spicy foods are a few of the more common reasons a Rosacea flare up occurs.

Acne: What Makes Acne Worse? And The Research Been Done On Acne.

A bit of trivia for your first:

Q. What parts of your body will never get acne?

A. Your lips for one as they have no oil producing glands.

Anyway after that little bit of enlightenment lets get on with finding out what can make acne worse. Firstly you have the obvious reasons and ones I am sure we all know and recognise. Changing hormone levels and squeezing or picking at spots. Other reasons that can make acne worse and may be a little less obvious to some are pollution and high humidity, pressure from bike helmets, backpacks or tight collars. Finally, hard scrubbing of your skin can make your acne worse not better.

Scientists are regularly looking at new and better ways that acne can be treated. Working on new drugs to treat acne, ways to prevent acne in the first place and to stop the hormone testosterone from causing acne.

Here are some of the products already available to prevent and treat acne:

As with anything there are many myths some true and some false. Here are some acne myths that are definitely NOT true.

1. Eating chocolate or fatty food will not mean you getting acne.

2. A blackhead is not dirt, its dark colour is excess skin pigment. Washing yourself more will not help prevent acne. Do not stop washing though as this will allow bacteria to multiply.

3. If someone sitting next to you has acne, you have no need to worry you will not catch it. Acne is not contagious.

So what exactly is Acne and more importantly what are the main causes? To Read more about the main causes of acne and what you can do to prevent acne please click here.
