Is Bottled Water Too Expensive?
Well unless you live in places such as Spain, then yes bottled water in the U.K. is most definitely too expensive. I have to take my hat off to the people responsible for marketing bottled water. Telling us it is the best thing since sliced bread and how we should all be drinking it. Bear in mind companies are businesses and therefore out to make money, they will aim to sell you the product even if you do not need it.
Bottled water over the past 10 – 15 years has become increasingly popular. When you walk into a shop bottled water of many varieties, are very easy to find. Undoubtedly I have consumed many bottles of water over the years. Not that I go out to buy bottled water, more that I am out and about and can’t be bothered to go back home to get a drink. When I think of bottled water, football players gulping it down at the end of the match springs to mind.
There is an argument to say that bottled water is better to drink that than tap water. Isn’t bottled water just filtered and purified tap water? Don’t you think it is a waste of money, buying bottled water when you can get it straight out of the tap. It’s not like your body does cartwheels when you drink it.
As with a lot of products we buy things are added to it and this is the case for some bottled water. Basically if it doesn’t taste like pure water then sugar or other flavourings may well have been added to it. Bottled water may have come from a mountain river or spring and even though there maybe some minerals in it that tap water doesn’t overall it isn’t really any better for you. Just a lot more expensive.
I find it strange that people prefer the taste of bottled water. On the whole I do not taste that much difference. If you do prefer the taste of bottled water what do you do? Personally I would not go running out to buy bottled water. There are a couple of options. For a start you could buy some juice to go into the water or even add a slice of lemon. Or buy a water filter, nowadays there are many filters on the market. These tend to be less expensive and easy to use. Filling a jug with water is easy to do. Go down to your local shop and have a look, I’m sure you will be able to find one you like there. You can always buy filters that fit over your faucet, a better option I have found. Easy to use and easy to change the filters when you need to. Ever tried filling up your empty bottles with tap water then leaving them in your freezer for a while and leave them to get nice and cold? You may well find the taste of the water is now drinkable and just think of all the money you will save.
The problem I see with the bottled water is, it is too expensive. We are getting charged over the odds which in reality it is something that should be pretty much free. Shouldn’t we feel guilty for buying bottled water when there are people around the world dying because they have no water? Could we survive on just tap water? Of course we could.
