An Insight To Some Of The Diets Available To Us

Without a doubt the one thing we all want to know when resigning ourselves to the fact that we need to lose a few pounds,(again). Is which diet is the best? We are all different, yet we share one thing in common. We want a diet that will make us think in no time at all and with as little hassle as possible that we will lose weight. A pill or eating plan that makes the weight drop off and never return. Not forgetting that once we have lost the weight, we want it to stay off.

Being overweight is on the increase and therefore has turned the weight loss industry into a massive and ever growing business. More and more diets are being published in magazines and on the Internet. People are understandably getting very confused, about which diet is the best one for them to realise their dream of getting back into shape. We couldn’t possibly go through all the diets available as there really are so many about. So what I have done is to go through some of the better known diets about. So let’s start with one of the newer diets.

The Atkins diet.
I think everyone has heard of the Atkins diet, it blasted into our lives a few years ago. It’s popularity down to the results you can get. Also the reviews from many satisfied customers. What makes this diet popular with both men and women is you are able to eat lots of meat, cheese and bacon. The downside of this rather spectacular diet is the tiredness, headaches and muscle cramps you can get when you cut out those nasty carbohydrates. Only time will tell whether this diet is really in the long term good for your health.

The Zone diet, devised by Barry Sears.
This diet is easy enough to follow, all you have to do is eat the right mix of foods in order to gain a hormonal balance, which is called the ‘zone’. It allows your body to take in calories and burn use them during the day without putting anything aside as fat. This diet hasn’t exactly gone down well with the scientists as whole grain foods and beans are banned, meaning essential nutrients are missing when you are on this diet.

The Jenny Craig diet.
Jenny Craig started her business in early 1980’s and while some diets have fallen by the wayside this one is still going. For $100 a week you buy and cook her pre-packaged food meaning you don’t need to choose or shop for ingredients to follow your diet. Also on top of the $100 is the membership costs and also the fruit and vegetable you will need to buy. This diet does work, so if you are able to afford it and more importantly stick to it then the Jenny Craig diet is a good way to go. There are cheaper alternatives available, by buying similar low-calories foods which can be brought at local supermarkets.

The South Beach diet.
Many people have managed to lose weight while on this diet, but this is one of the hardest diets to stick to. For the first two weeks you cut out pretty much all foods containing carbohydrates from your daily consumption. After that you gradually bring back into your daily consumption whole grains and fruit. Which is fine but where I think people get bored with this diet is the time it takes to get to your ideal weight. As not many people will stick to a diet that can take up to a year to get to your desired results, most of us want a quick fix. This diet also does not give any alternative foods, so if you don’t like the foods they suggest then tough.

Weight Watchers.
Another diet that has been around for as long as I can remember. Weight watchers have all the tools available to you. Whether it is going along to the weekly meetings or following the diet online. With their easy points system and range of foods, you are onto a winner with this one. You do, however really need to be committed to losing weight to follow this diet, otherwise you will be on and off it forever.

This review just gives you an insight to a few of the diets that are on the market today. There is a lot of choice out there. How to choose the best diet? Listen to what people have to say about a diet. Get advice from your doctor or a dietician, if you are not sure if it is for you. Finally make sure you are able to afford to stick to the diet, no use starting the diet if you are not able to afford to keep it going.
