So how are we able to stick to our diet? Here are some useful tips that will help you do just that.

Keep A Food Journal

Just like you keep track of your money to see what you have spent, you need to keep a food journal to see what you are eating and drinking every week. It really does makes a difference. If you don’t feel you have time to write everything down, complete a meal planner at the beginning of each week and tick off each meal you have, making any ammendments as you go along, this will be less time cosuming that writing as you go along.

Research And Pick The Best Diet For You

Make sure when choosing a diet, that you pick one that is easy for you to follow. Don’t pick a diet just because your friend lost weight if you don’t think you will be able to stick to it. Don’t forget to work out roughly how much going on that diet would cost you – are you able to afford it? Side effects of certain diets are also important to take into account. If you are feeling tired and worn out whilst on a diet then your willpower will not be at its strongest. If you are unsure as to which diet does suit you, test it our for a couple of weeks and see how you go. Don’t forget to also put some thought as to why you are looking to lose weight.

Set Yourself Achieveable And Realistic Targets

If you have put on weight over a number of years, it will not fall off over night. To get to your weight loss goal will take time to achieve, so make sure you set yourself goals that you are able to reach. You will find yourself more motivated if you are reaching your goals and more likely to keep going. Be careful not to cut out everything ‘bad’ straight away unless you are fully up for it. Changing what you eat slowly may just give you a better chance of sticking to your diet in the long run. For instance if you eat junk food every night, start by cutting it down to every other night then to twice and week and so on. If you are a chocolate fan replace it with a bowl of fruit. By keeping your goals realistic and reasonable to you will help you stay motivated and happy with your diet.

Exercise

In order to lose weight and maintain your new weight, you will have to do some form of exercise and regularly. Exercise can be whatever you like whether it is walking to work instead of driving, going to the gym, buying an exercise DVD. Not only will you feel more energised but you will get to your ideal weight a lost quicker.

Don’t Punish Yourself

Dwelling too much on an unhealthy meal will not do you any good. Try making sure you next meal is healthy and tell yourself you will do better next time. Have a back up plan if you feel yourself slipping into bad habits. Whether it is to not look at a menu in the first place and just order grilled chicken or salad whenever you are out for a meal or simply not drinking too much to avoid those inevitable munchies.

Don’t Diet On Your Own.

Some people are quite happy to diet on their own, they do not need the support from anyone to achieve their desired weight loss.
