Low Fat Deserts
In my opinion the best part of a meal is the desert. Unfortunately many of the deserts that are on the shelves today aren’t exactly very good for you loaded with salt, sugar or fat. On the whole our nation has become obsessed with eating the unhealthy option. Food has become such a vast business and the food that sells is the good old junk food – mostly because it is so chocked full of rubbish our brains think it is the best food for us to eat.
I’m afraid to say we are also greedy. We want everything a new car, new house and all the nice food we can get our hands on. Years ago what people ate said just how wealthy they where, not so much the case nowadays. So how do you get that satisfaction you are searching for at the end of a meal? Without piling the hundreds of calories, having your cake and eating it so to speak. Don’t be fooled by the low fat option, this really won’t help you lose weight or even keep the weight off. If anything you will eat more of these types of food. Your body needs fat so cutting it out in the long run will not help you keep your weight off.
What to do?
Fresh fruit is a healthy and great desert to sink your teeth into. Today there are so many different fruits available I won’t accept anyone who says they do not like fruit. Whether it is the good old orange or a passion fruit the world is your oyster in the fruit market. Don’t forget the very versatile apple, beautiful baked with a sprinkle of brown sugar over it. Ever tried bananas sliced in orange juice? If not you should, it is also a great energy boost if you are feeling a bit sluggish.
Get yourself a hand blender, plenty are advertised on television and in magazines, great for making a low fat desert. With your hand blender get some skimmed milk, making sure it is ice cold, blend it until it looks like whipped cream then add some bananas and strawberries with a little pinch of sugar and there you go a desert that fills your every desire. A desert that looks like cream but isn’t.
Gelatine is also an option, the unflavoured kind. Look on the packaging on how to make it, then add some fruit juice or fresh fruit to the gelatine. If you have made up some whipped cream then add some of that too. You will love making and eating these. Not all cakes are bad for you, try making your own using a little less dairy in your recipe. Once you know what is good to eat then you can experiment away and find delicious deserts that are not going to force you to lay flat on the bed trying to do up your jeans.
Just remember to stay clear of those lot fat products, ever compared the carbohydrate content on the ‘light’ option, rather higher than the normal option.
